Point Cloud To AutoCAD

Not too familiar with Revit? Don't use 3D or BIM Modeling Platforms? No worry! Harris Design & Technology Service and provide the as-built drawings generated from point clouds right into AutoCAD!

What are Point Clouds? Point clouds are large collection of points acquired by 3D laser scanners or other technologies to create 3D representations of existing structures. Point cloud files support the design process by providing real-world context where you can recreate the referenced objects or insert additional models. Once a point cloud is attached to a drawing, you can use it as a guideline for drawing, change its display, or apply a color stylization to distinguish different features.

Why use point clouds? Point cloud files greatly speed the design process by providing real-world context where you can re-create the referenced objects. Point clouds are derived from raw data gathered by using a 3D scanner to obtain points from such things as buildings, landscapes, or manufactured items. For a reconstruction project, every part of a building is scanned and surveyed. Advanced laser scanning tools are used to record 3D spatial information, of the building structures; this spatial information is recorded in the form of a Point Cloud model. However, is this Point Cloud data ready to be used in BIM? Clearly not. At this point Software tools like Lecia cloud works for Autodesk Revit Architecture can be used to convert the Point Cloud model with millions of data points, into a BIM ready geometry.Architect engineers or BIM experts, collect & index the Point Cloud data model and further carry out a surface reconstruction process wherein, the scanned and indexed data is converted into various forms (i.e. triangle, polygon meshes or model) according to requirement and create BIM ready model.
